In recent years, the W7 platform has also become a reference standard in the high-end home audio world. Variants of the W7 are used in our ultra-premium Fathom® and Gotham® powered home subwoofers, which have received top ratings and recommendations from the world’s leading reviewers and are in daily use at some of the world’s top recording and mastering studios.
A W7’s unique proposition is its ability to deliver extreme output, accurate dynamics and sublime sound quality...all at the same time. The keys to these performance capabilities lie at the very core of loudspeaker design, where electromagnetic and mechanical behavior combine in fiendishly complex ways. JL Audio’s intense research into these behaviors allows us to optimize W7 motor and suspension systems to faithfully reproduce every bass detail with unparalleled linearity and accuracy. Eight U.S. Patents have been issued for motor, suspension and assembly technologies used in the W7’s.
Every W7 subwoofer is built to exacting quality standards in our Miramar, Florida factory, with globally sourced components. Each of the four models is a completely original design from surround to back-plate (even the bolts and screws used in assembly have been purpose-designed and manufactured to our specifications).
A bit obsessive, perhaps, but so is the quest for the ultimate in audio reproduction...a goal that we pursue with passion, through research and without compromise.

Taking the W7 design formula to its highest level, the 13W7AE offers a staggering linear excursion envelope that exceeds 1.25 inches (32 mm) one-way, along with a suspension capable of over 4-inches of peak-to-peak excursion. Combine that with a piston diameter that is 28% larger than the 12W7AE's, and you have a serious high-performance driver for the most demanding applications. With a 13W7AE, limits simply vanish and amazing sub-bass happens... on all fronts, at any level.
Our most potent Subwoofer is best used with amplifier power in the 500W - 1500W range and is optimized to operate in a 1.875 cu. ft. (53.1 l) sealed enclosure, or a 2.375 cu. ft. (67.3 l) ported enclosure. Detailed enclosure recommendations can be found in the "Specifications" tab.
W7AE (Anniversary Edition) Subwoofers celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the launch of the W7 subwoofers. Functionally, they are identical to the original W7's, but are they distinguished by the following cosmetic differences:
